Canopy Tinting
Hello guys, i'm going to share with you about a DIY experiment i did this morning.
I did some research on this canopy tinting process. After going through some of it, i decide to give it a try. So here we go.

- First you will need a spare canopy.

- Then a bottle of Future
[Image: IMG_2559.jpg]

- I 'borrowed' some food dye from my mum's baking 'arsenal'

- This next part, i will need you guys to use your own estimation. Too little of food dye will cause your canopy tinting to be too light or too much will cause it to be too dark.

- After mixing future and food dye, just dip the canopy in for about 5 minutes.

- After 5 minutes, TA DAA!!

I hope this short and simple tutorial will help you guys who are trying to tint canopies. Good luck!!Em58

RE: Canopy Tinting
I've been wanting a dark smoke tint, any idea what dye I should used together with future?
I tried black ink but still quite transparent. After my failed attempt at trying to airbrush smoke, I guess i'll stick to dipping in future, less trouble.. higher success rate...

RE: Canopy Tinting
Is there any difference in airbrushing Future on the canopy compared to dipping the whole thing in it? Currently I'm AB-ing the future on the canopy instead of dipping the whole thing in. Another thing you don't dilute future?

cool technique blackout...

thanx for sharing...question though: can you keep the "colored" future for long? for other future builds?

RE: Canopy Tinting
klay: maybe you should add a little more black colouring to the future and give it a good 'shake'. btw, im curious, you use black 'INK'? ink as in pen ink?Em114

kou_uraki87: i'm not too sure about the difference though cause i never tried it. all this while, i just dip the canopy in. about diluting future, i don't usually dilute them. i'm curious on this too, do u dilute them? with what? windex?Em114

wingnut: thanks. i think you could. anyway, i normally pour out and keep it in a container just to make sure i don't contaminate the whole bottle. if it get spoilt, just dump them and do a new one.

crumpler: i got mine at marina square's home-fix. $16.90 per bottle. its goodWink-wink. about your other question, i'm not too sure on whether it will yellow or not, maybe it will in time maybe not. since this thread is about tinting, i think we all won't mind if it get yellow since its already tinted.Lol

@crumpler I'm new to this future thing too, if you can't find it at Marina Home-fix, there is always M workshop, they sell them in smaller bottles at ard 5dollars each.

@Blackout When i bought my Future at M workshop, I asked bernard about what to dilute it with. He told be acrylic thinner. So i bought an additional bottle of acrylic thinner specially for this.

RE: Canopy Tinting
if i remember correctly, future does not require thinning, it self levels on its own.
I remember one time when i airbrushed it without thinning, it came out quite ok but it runs very easily.....

RE: Canopy Tinting
blackout..
Yes, black ink as in pen ink from those gel-type ball pen.
I just get what I can find at home Toungue
The dyed future with ink is quite dark, I basically can't see through (I keep it in a 18ml Tamiya paint bottle), just after 3 rounds dipping it's still not very visible.. I'll post mine soon (it's the eggplane viper).

And FYI, I think long long ago I have a unsuccessful result when mixing future with Mr.Hobby smoke, maybe something wrong I did.. couldn't recall though.
Any idea what other stuff I can try that give's a black/smoke color tinting?
