Plamo Build-off series #1 : Royal Rumble - King Tigers (Maxwinamp vs Viper1972)
To spice things up a little other than the group builds.
(Since you may get burn out sticking to a subject too long Lol )

Viper and me decided to do a build-off on a King Tiger tank while STILL doing the rest of the builds. Actually we have been planning something like this since last year.

AND if any two of the members decided to do a build-off vs each other. Do drop me a PM to start the series rolling. Bao_32

Point to note, those attempting build offs MUST finish the kit hor! boyrun

Anyway.. on with the build Smile

Tamiya King Tiger Production Turret, Eduard PE set, ATAK Zimmerit Set

Scheme that I will be doing.

The ATAK Zimmerit set consists of very thin resin pieces to be put onto the model surface. the zimmer texture looks just right to me.

The other resin parts that come with the ATAK set.

The back panel piece. Very thin and surprisingly it can take some handling and not as fragile as it looks.

The back of the resin sheet is glossy smooth. You need to sand it to provide some grip for the glue. (CA Glue, White Glue or Arcylic Glue)
I am using Gator Glue... (IT ROCCCCCCCKSSSSS)

Testing the fit.... !$#@$@@# have to fill up the right hand edge...Blood0ni
[Image: KT_07.JPG]

Thin strip of epoxy putty and a screw driver to redo the edge 'steps'

Won't be noticeable liao! Smile

Heeeeeeere's mine! Lol

Tamiya 1/35 King Tiger - Ardennes Front
[Image: P1080550.jpg]

This boxing comes with another full kit of the DKW NZ350 motorcycle and enough figures for a mini-dio.

I haven't exactly decided on the scheme yet, but the Ardennes Tigers don't have evidence of zimmerit (lucky for me Lol)

Still, I'm using the Eduard PE set for this, which comes with PE spokes for the motorcycle wheels too!

Wheels, wheels and more wheels... Blood0ni

I've roughened the texture of the armour plate.

This is done by applying a liberal amount of Tamiya cement onto the plastic, letting it melt the surface a bit, then stab the surface with an old paint brush.
When dry, lightly sand with sandpaper.

haha. i guess since they building king tiger, wont they be shouting , whose you daddy little pussy cat?!" Lol

great result for the cement-pebbly surface, viper! i am too fearful of putting my plastic to the cement so i am still using the old surfacer method to make those effects..

KGM2, the cement method creates a texture that's more for rolled steel. For cast iron, the surfacer + stippling method works better. Rolled steel is hardly ever smooth, with minor dinks and a texture that's visible close up so if you wanna make rolled steel, it's actually better to use the Tamiya cement + brush + wet sand method that Viper is using.

See this image. Note how the surface is a little rough but not as rough as a cast iron surface.

Remember this, even if you win the rat race, you're still a rat.
