(note: not mine ar)
does anybody have idea on that gold col.? oh yes...i did tried on supermetal (mr.hobby) the gold col. ..but result not that good (i think).
anyone can share their experience with gold col?
I only use Mr Metal Colour No. 217.
And the result is
this.
I coated the base with semi gloss black before AB with gold.
The result is quite nice.. but I use a matt to tone it down.
From the pic of the akatsuki, it seems like the surface of the gold is buffed to get a very even look. (which can be done on Mr Colour Chrome Silver)
But I found that I cannot buff No.217.......
Havent tried other types of gold.
once i've tried mixing mr hobby gold with silver......then i got that kinda pale gold color like your that akat pic.
i believe i tried it here on one of my noobish handpainted works, haha

was thinking to mix supermetal gold with the supermetal silver?...is it gonna work??...should rush to hobby shop later...
IIRC, I saw HAG at Sunshine plaza selling gold and silver paint that come in seperate boxes, not sure is it mr hobby but is expensive $10 ++ and $20++, the gold one come with a bottle of thinner ... the silver one come with 2 bottles of thinner ..... you might want to go down to clarify...this is what i can remember... two weeks ago liao..

Maybe it was an alclad metalic? I don't have any experiance with them so i'm not sure which it would be, but it looks like it could be an alclad metalic.

for good gold effect, first must coat it with gloss black (if possible super black)! The base color is one of the key point especially for metallic color.
pls take note that the gunze normal metal color is not buffable, only the Mr. Metal Color (no.211-219) is can be buffed to shine!
Another comment method of gold color effect is using clear color.
same apply gloss black base coat, then silver (or chrome silver for more shinning), finally spray the clear orange + clear yellow (ratio depends on how the gold u like).
actually it's hard to control the metal color and clear color. practice is important! for anything, test with the waste parts or plastic card first.
I like mr hobby colour titanium. Its a very pale gold like the above but its appears quite grainy. never tried polishing it though. I tried mixing silver with gold before, also get a very pale gold. Quite good. You shld try mr metal colours, they are quite nice. There was a hobby japan within the last 4 months or so that had a shiki with a custom gold and very exact details on how to acheive it. Anyone with that volume? can scan in and show. He used many many layers of paint.
I like alclad pale burnt gold for a pale gold effect. I've got a colour chip sample at no name shop if you guys wanna see how it looks like on a black base coat.
Can such paints be top coated ?
Like mr.metal etc etc . not sure cuz i heard the guy at HAGs say cannot .
