Greetings everyone,
I hope you guys can help me out in a
major problem I have with my decal gone yellowish.
Background story : I bought 2 MG water slide decals from HLJ around 4 months ago. But I never use them and place them in a SD model box in my cabinet. The nightmare begin just now when I open them and discovered that the white decals has all turned yellowish. I am pretty sure they are white when I first open the HLJ package.
I believe the yellowish is due to chemical reaction from the high humidity. But the question is how do I repair it ?
Hope someone here can help me else its bye bye for them..

What some people have done with some success is to put the decals into a zip lock bag and tape it against the window for the sun to shine on it. The zip lock bag is there so that the decals won't stick to the window itself.
Needless to say, please test a small piece before actually doing the whole sheet. Also, make sure you do it on a super sunny and dry day. Humidity is a big no no.
Good luck!
Er mechaed, to bleach yellowed decals, it's got to be left for a few days, so doesn't matter if it's rainy today or not as long as there's direct sunlight onto the ziplocked decal sheet for a few days.
After that, remove the decals from the ziplock bag and LIGHTLY MIST over with gloss coat to prevent the decals from cracking.
G- "bleached crappy OOP Microscale decals enough times to comment" man
COOL! I just thought that humidity wouldn't be good for the decals. This makes it even easier considering how unpredictable the weather here is.
Wah sh!t... mine too... argh... i went to check after reading this thread... shit man... should've not bought these decals so soon.
hehehe, i was just abt to post a question abt this for my F18 decals...
well, guess it's time to dig out those good ol zip bags
..thanks for the tips, guys.. will sun bath the decals later today ..
..Of course will try on small portion first..
..I believe even it can be restore back to white, I will need MicroSol or decal solution cause its probably all crunchy after the sun treatment..finger crossed..
That's why G-Man suggested a glosscoat over the suntanned decal sheet dood.
Bandai decals are probably printed using the same technology as Hasegawa decals, which explains why both show signs of the whites yellowing.
Microsol decal sealant also helps to prevent cracking. You simply brush them over the bleached decals. I also use that for all my ALPS decals as ALPS printed decals are notoriously fragile compared to silkscreen printed ones.
Mine is also showing signs of yellowing, though it only affects the offical Bandai ones, the others are all fine...
