After weeks of putting up with my spoilt earphones, i've finally got myself a new one. Thanks to Sprigaan, max and wingnut
I went down to Jaben yesterday with my dad and got my self the Mylarone Bijou 2. Truth be told, I'm pretty pleased with the
product. I think that there are some people who would like a review on the earphones, it would also serve as a good reference for people who are considering to buy new headphones in the near future.
Before i start the review on the phones i would like to say that i'm no audiophile and the review is based on purely my opinion of the phones. Hence, views may differ from person to person.
Review of the Mylarone Bijou 2/3

BUndle consisits of:
CrossRoads earphones
5 paris of different sized "sleeves"
Fiio amp
Hard black round casing
Hippo wrap
Airline jack
Firstly, the physical apperance of the phones. There are avaliable colours like black, ruby, gunmetal and pink. The sad/good news is that Jaben only carry Gunmetal and Pink. Honestly, who needs other colours when the Gunmetal looks so damn nice!!
Here's a photo of how "Gunmetal" looks like:
I think it doesn't correspond to the "Gunmetal" colour alot of you had in mind.
For those who are wondering, the cords of the phones are the y-type. The kind that hangs down from your ears instead of the "cooler" design sported by the japanese brands which goes over the neck. There is also a clip attached to the cords which in my opinion is too low to clip onto the collar of the shirt. The clip is supposed to minimize sound being transmitted to the ears when cords are pulled or tugged. (But if you don't like it, just remove it with those tools lying in your modelling tool box!)
Sound Quality
Frankly, when I first walked into the Jaben shop i was a little disappointed. I asked to try out the crossroads earphones, a helper
let me try out the Mylarone Bijou 3 (the one with lesser bass) and i felt that the sound quality was not as i had expected. The Bass was very hollow covered the rest of the sounds produced too. Next i tried the Bijou 2, and i feels that its more suited for my taste.
After trying out for the whole evening and night yesterday, there are some times when the bass fails on comparison to CX300
the highs and mids are clear and nice (with the help of the amp). But, for the price tag the phones have done more than enough.
Furthermore, I read on other forums that Crossroads earphones after bruning in produces music alot better than when it was OOB.
The Fiio "free" amp
In my personal opinion, i feel that this is the sweetest part of the deal. With the amp the earphones are able to produce a much
more clearer crisp sound. The amp also amplifies the signal and hence be prepared to listen at roughly half of the volume you
would normally listen to. Tested the amp on the train today, and there wasn't any of the problem wingnut spoke about maybe cos my phone didn't ring throughout the whole journey.
(EDIT: It happened on the way home, but it wasn't too obvious so i think its ok)
I know that this amp isn't exactly the "high end quality" kind but still it being a first amp for me i think its more than enough.
Plus the amp is tiny and not bulky to carry around, here is a photo of it:
It currently is only avaliable is white, according to the uncle the black stock will come in a few weeks later.
Conclusion:
Overall, its really is damn good deal with all those accesories and given the sound quality of the phones. If you are thinking of getting this after reading this, heed sprigaan's advise:" bring your MP3 player there to test the headphones before you buy! " Note that both the bijou 2 and 3 cos the same price, they are just tuned differntly to suit differnt people. So test them out and decide for yourself!!
