hey guys im working on a diorama and i keep seeing all these impressive ways to make tall grass, snow, walls, etc, but the question i ask is how you go about making the base. by that i mean the dirt and grass. is there a way to scratchbuild the grass? i followed foo's advice and i have a bunch of varying sizes of sifted dirt, now im just not sure on how to lay it on my base. also with grass, any help? its a gundam diorama so i should take note grass and dirt will have to be at a very small scale right?
for gundam dio, the grass is so small until they're more like an impression than really grass. meaning the viewer can see a patch of green and understand it's grass.
normally i use grass powder.
to glue the grass powder, i use white glue, mix with water and tamiya acrylic flat base.paint on the surface where u want the grass, then put the grass powder on.
dont worry, white glue might seems white when it's wet, but will turn transparent when it dries. only problem is the glue tends to become glossy, hence i add some flat base in it.
by the way if you are buying that book make sure to get the 2nd Edition...

I got mine from Amazon. Locally, there is some copies in circulation at National Libraries. You will need to source it out.
Thanks :D will got to national library to hunt for them :D
read more newspaper or the internet and see all those article related to your diorama. Best to experience yourself (unlikely to happen)
