A very old build, done before really good references of Red 2 was available. I wanted to build Wedge Antilles' ship, but then the movie images colour not very good. So I painted his helmet gun metal. Actual color is supposed to be metallic dark green. Then 90% into the build I realised that I didn't know what colour was his R2!! So I whack and painted it similar to R2-D2...

Electronic AMT kit, with lights, motorised moving wings, motorised opening cockpit and sound! They should re-issue these super power kits, instead of that lousy detailed star destroyer...

Very big model. The wooden platform used in the photos is a full sized bar stool.

Those little black switches on the base activate all the effects and movement.

As reference, this cost me $129.90 from miniature hobby at Bugis Junction. back in 1996. I still have the receipt! When I first saw it, it was soooo freaking cool that I just had to get it even if I had to rob banks! It was the first ever SW model with integrated motorisation and sound effects.

there are two motors and 6 lights in the ship. 4 in the thrusters and 2 lights in the cockpit.

press button: click! cockpit opens... whirrrrrr.

press button: click! Wings open... whirrrr.

Press button: 'Choom!' laser sound. Press again: "Stay on target!". Press again: Vader says 'I have you now!' etc etc...


The non-model builders nowadays go gaga over those overpriced Code 3 'ready made' SW ships ($500 a piece. crazy!). But who needs those... we have model kits that we can build for more satisfaction!

last year i saw this kit at one of the malay model shop near KL. i want to take it but the boss said not for sale.
couple of months back the shop moving and the kit was sold!!!! @#$%^&%#
